Audio input test
Play BBC audio in Firefox, then select CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable) below. A moving meter confirms this page is receiving audio.
This test runs locally in your browser. It does not record, upload audio or call the OpenAI API. Audio is not played back, to avoid feedback.
Ready. Allow microphone access to list your audio inputs.
Peak: 0% | RMS: -∞ dBFS
No input active.
Help with audio and permissions
- Open this page over HTTPS using a certificate Firefox trusts, or on localhost. An ordinary HTTP address on your NAS cannot request microphone access.
- When Firefox asks, allow microphone access. If its permission dialogue offers a device selector, choose CABLE Output there too.
- Firefox's Windows output should be CABLE Input; this page's input should be CABLE Output. Keep your normal speakers and microphone as the Windows defaults.
- If the meter stays at zero, keep the programme playing, check Firefox is not muted and check the CABLE Output meter in Windows.
- If permission is blocked, use Firefox's microphone permission control beside the address bar, then try again. Close another application if it has exclusive use of the input.
